The Medic One Foundation, in partnership with North Seattle College, has developed an EMT Scholarship Program to help remove financial barriers for individuals interested in pursuing a career in emergency medicine in Washington state.

Each quarter, a limited number of spaces will be reserved for scholarship recipients to attend the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course at North Seattle College—the most prolific EMT training program in the region—at no cost. EMT Scholarship Information

Scholarship Amount

A one-time scholarship of $2,000, which will cover the cost of college tuition and fees, books, supplies, and a small stipend to offset travel costs to and from campus.

Eligibility

  • At least 18 years of age by the first day of class
  • Washington State Resident with valid Washington State driver’s license
  • Students who demonstrate financial need
  • Must complete all college and program requirements as directed, which include attending one of the mandatory information sessions, registering as a North Seattle College student, and passing the entrance exam.

Application Process

Applications for our EMT Scholarship Program are accepted year-round! You don’t need to wait for an informational session or the mandatory test to submit your application. However, to qualify for the scholarship, you must attend an informational session and complete the mandatory test. Please note: Your application must be submitted by the deadline for the quarter you are applying for, so don’t delay!

In order to be considered for an EMT Scholarship, you must complete the following:

  • EMT Scholarship application form.
  • Please submit a 500–700-word personal statement or a short video (no longer than three minutes) that addresses the following areas:
    • Commitment to EMS. Explain why you are pursuing EMS now and describe your specific goals, timeline, and the role you plan to take in your local EMS system.
    • Your financial picture. Describe your household’s financial situation, the education and living costs you face, the support you have, and the unmet need this scholarship would cover.
    • Structural Access Barriers. Share any non-financial or systemic barriers—such as first-generation status, immigrant/ESL background, re-training needs, or rural/low-resource access—that have affected your ability to pursue education or career pathways.
    • Community equity impact. Describe the community of communities you are connected to and how your background, language skills, or lived experience would help improve EMS access, trust, or communication.
    • Your plan to succeed. Explain how you will manage class time, study habits, work, family responsibilities, transportation, childcare, and test preparation to complete EMT training successfully.
    • Service mindset. Examples from work, caregiving, or volunteering that show you’ll be a strong teammate for patients and crews.
    • Ambassador pledge. Describe one specific way you would represent Medic One Foundation or support future EMS students if selected.

Selection Process

Scholarship recipients are selected based on their application and essay or video. The EMT scholarship selection committee will review each applicant and determine the recipients. The following criteria will be used in the scholarship selection process:
