2026 Application Period Now Open.
Applications Open: November 15, 2025
Application Deadline: March 1, 2026
Eligible Applicant Agencies
An agency must be a primary nonprofit provider of emergency medical services for a community located in Washington State. It is anticipated that such agencies will usually be local fire departments, but may be community hospitals or other local institutions that directly support or participate in an out-of-hospital EMS system, and which operate as nonprofit public agencies. All applicant agencies must be public entities or private nonprofit corporations recognized by the State of Washington. No agency will receive funding for two consecutive years.
Funding Priority
The Foundation’s funding priority is equipment for patient care in the field or the training and education of firefighters and paramedics. The Foundation will not consider requests for vehicles, clothing, or wearable safety items, routine replacement of standard in-service equipment already carried on rigs (such as stretchers, backboards, AEDs, and defibrillators), single-use disposable items, or operational expenses from agencies with operating budgets over $1 million. For agencies with annual operating budgets under $1 million, the Foundation may consider requests for vehicles and essential equipment such as defibrillators, mechanical CPR devices (e.g., LUCAS), hydraulic rescue tools (e.g., Jaws of Life), ventilators, AEDs, etc. The Foundation will not provide funding for equipment purchased prior to the award date.
Grant Range
Equipment grant awards generally range between $2,500 – $25,000. Funding is on a matching basis. The Medic One Foundation may contribute up to 75% of the cost of the requested equipment. The applicant agency must demonstrate the financial capability and commitment to fund the balance of its request. Applications will be rated and ranked in priority order and will receive funding in accordance with the financial capabilities of the Medic One Foundation. The Foundation may waive the matching requirement for agencies with annual operating budgets under $750,000 or for those that primarily serve rural or underserved populations.
Award of Grant
Grant awards will be announced by April 30 of each year. Recipients must complete the purchase of approved equipment and submit their request for distribution no later than December 31 of the award year. Funds not requested by this date will automatically be returned to the Foundation’s Equipment Fund for redistribution in future grant cycles. Awardees who do not meet this deadline will forfeit their award and must reapply for future funding consideration. Extensions will not be granted, so applicants should ensure that procurement and invoicing can be completed within the required timeframe before accepting the award.
