Medic One Foundation Funds $20,000 for UWEMS Pilot Program

The Medic One Foundation has awarded a generous $20,000 grant to the University of Washington Emergency Medical Services (UWEMS) Pilot Program. This visionary initiative sets a new standard in emergency medical services by creating Washington State’s first Collegiate-Based EMS (CBEMS) agency.

UWEMS is a student-led EMS agency that will provide rapid medical response and life-saving care to the University of Washington campus community. With this grant, UWEMS will cover critical start-up costs, including life-saving trauma and resuscitation equipment, CPR/AED training tools, personal protective gear, and operational facilities.

The UWEMS Pilot Program is poised to:

  • Respond to emergencies on campus in under three minutes.
  • Train over 1,000 students, staff, and faculty in CPR, AED use, and overdose prevention.
  • Build a diverse, skilled EMS workforce by recruiting and training UW students from various backgrounds.

“We are thrilled to sponsor the UWEMS Pilot Program and support the establishment of the first collegiate-based EMS agency on campus,” said Kim Duncan Martin, Executive Director at Medic One Foundation. “This program represents an important step forward in campus safety and emergency medical services, and we are excited to see the outcomes and the impact of their work for years to come.”

The UWEMS Pilot Program also partners with leaders in emergency medicine, including the Seattle Fire Department and UW Paramedic Training Program, ensuring that the program meets the highest standards of patient care.
