The Foundation does not supplement the operating budgets of Medic One providers, nor does it receive any government funding. In fact, the Medic One Foundation is supported exclusively through charitable contributions.
Community-based, non-governmental funding provides the versatility and independence that is not possible with "strings attached" funding. In other words, medical professionals can evaluate medical practices and procedures objectively with the patient in mind.
Medic One:
- Is funded by a voter-approved levy and provides emergency medical care to 1.7 million Seattle and King County residents.
- Relies on approximately $38 million in levy funding for:
- Paramedic salaries
- Vehicles
- Medical equipment and supplies
Medic One Foundation:
- Is privately funded with an annual program services budget of $800,000 that supports:
- Paramedic training and continuing education
- Targeted research and special projects
- Quality assurance and medical oversight
- Creates program enhancements that have set the standard for pre-hospital emergency care in the U.S. and around the world.

Recognizing that the basic infrastructure (salaries, vehicles and supplies) for providing emergency medical services is funded by local taxes, the Foundation focuses its efforts on raising money for three critical program areas - world-class paramedic training and continuing education, scientific research to develop new methods of emergency care and independent medical review of Medic One's performance to improve survival rates and patient outcomes.
Because it is independent and privately funded, the Medic One Foundation has distinct advantages that result in the highest level of care possible.
